The season of wild orchids

On this walking tour we'll discover the spectacular wild orchids that bloom in the Algarve barrocal in spring. There are around 70 species of orchid in Portugal, and the Algarve region has a great variety.

There are around 90 species of wild orchid in Portugal. Here in the Barrocal area of the Algarve, nearly 20 have already been identified!

Did you know that some orchids need more than 10 years to flower? How do they survive? Why are they at risk of disappearing?

Between February and April, come and discover the complex world of these fascinating flowers!
